Alto al Fuego en La Mision

24th & Capp, SF, CA

LEAD MURALIST, FALL 2019

In 2019, I was one out of 6 muralists and community organizers commissioned for the organizing, designing and painting of ‘Alto al Fuego en La Misión’. My poetry can also be found on the side of the building.

This mural is dedicated to the life of Amilcar Perez Lopez along with other lives lost due on to police violence and the crisis at the border. Almicar was a 21-year-old Ch’orti’ Mayan immigrant from Guatemala, shot and killed by officers from the San Francisco Police Department on February 26th, 2015.

The art is a call to action for justice and accountability and served as a fundraiser for Amilcar’s family.

The desert landscape and water jugs I painted are an homage to the brave migrants crossing over and the activist that organize water jug drop offs along the Mexican border desert.

“Raíces”

“Liberty and justice

Run interlaced like

Roots

Older than frontiers

And more resistant Than the arm of

The oppressor.”

Spanish- English translation of my poem “Raíces” on “Alto al Fuego en la Misión”.

The mural was designed and directed in community and collaboration by Carla Elana Wojczuk with, Homies Organizing the Mission to Empower Youth (HOMEY), Justice4Amilcar Coalition, Lucía González Ippolito, and assisted by Flavia Elisa Mora; and painted by: Cristian Muñoz, Lucía González Ippolito, Anna Lisa Escobedo, Carla Elana Wojczuk, Adrianna Adams, Flavia Elisa Mora (painting and poetry), Pancho Pescador, and Sonia "G" Molina.
